Hong Kong was awesome. I could easily see myself living there. Aside from the scary driving, I felt really comfortable. Almost everyone understood English, it was easy to get around, and the food was great (even though I mostly ate American food.) In the two days we were there I think I had pizza 3 times. One of the times was at Pizza Hut, but not the kind of Pizza Hut we have in the U.S.—I’m talking gourmet Pizza Hut. It was an experience.
The port where our ship was docked was attached to a huge shopping mall with free Wi-Fi. We could also see the entire skyline of Hong Kong Island through the window of our cabin and every night there was a light show. We couldn’t ask for a better location. However, every time I exited or entered the ship I had to walk through the entire mall, which was way too tempting.
During the day my friends and I went to visit the Big Buddha, which is located on Lantau Island, so we had to take 2 ferries to get there. The Buddha sits on top of a tall mountain and on the morning we were there it was surrounded by haze so it was pretty surreal. To get back we took a “Crystal Cabin.” It was basically just a sky-ride with a glass bottom that we paid a few extra dollars to ride, but we felt pretty cool cutting the line and getting in our “crystal” cabin. Plus it was a great way to see the entire island.
At night we took a ferry to Hong Kong Island where there are lots of bars and restaurants. We met up with a bunch of SAS people. It was so much fun. I only wish we had a few more days in Hong Kong (and every other port!)
